Isabel's Last Morning Before Going to Her New Home

Acadia Pastori Bergamascos is dedicated to raising the finest Bergamascos possible, with due regard to all factors, for the best temperament, conformity and overall health. Our puppies are raised in the house, with human affection and interaction every day, plus a substantial array of Bergamasco "aunts and uncles" who take an active interest in the pups once they are four or five weeks of age and running around. For a Bergamasco, the breeder's responsibilities do not stop when you adopt your puppy: you will have many, many questions about intelligence, behavior, and the coat over the first few years especially. I remain available and eager to speak with owners to answer their questions, help in any way I can, and to guide them through the coat process. This interest and responsibility to answer questions and offer advice continues for the life of the dog. Many owners call me on a regular basis, send pictures, e-mail, and best of all, come to shows when they can so we can have a family reunion!

Our Experience

Although I have had dogs, of various and mixed breeds, all my life, and had always loved them, I was not prepared for how much I would love my Bergamascos and what a big part of my life they would become. They are very intelligent, but at the same time, cheerful and laid back. Always up for anything with a big smile on their face, but also happy to just lie around if you feel like reading or being still. Everyone who has one is struck by the variety and complexity of their facial expressions. At times you wonder if they really are as intelligent as we are, but they just don't say anything . . . it certainly seems so much of the time. When Denali, my first Bergmasco, first came to live with me, I found I could not bear to leave her home all day as I had always done with my other dogs, and ended up bringing her to the office. Everyone loved her. Now that there is a houseful, they can play together during the day, but even so, I often bring one to the office, and they are always sociable, outgoing and friendly with everyone there, and make a big hit.
