O.E.B.A Breeder Requirements

Approved breeder status is bestowed by the O.E.B.A. on those breeders who are establishing breeding schemes under O.E.B.A. direction.

Approved breeders must adhere to the O.E.B.A. Approved Breeder Requirements and the O.E.B.A. Breeding Stock Selection Requiremens. Approved breeders must clearly tell dog buyers that only the best examples of the breed will be issued Certificates of Merit.

Approved breeders must have a good working knowledge of the Olde English Bulldogge standard, temperament, and movement.

Approved breeders must be ethical in all dog transactions. All dogs must be sold with a guarantee of replacement if subsequent lameness, disability, or death is due to genetic causes.

Approved breeders will provide the following minimum care to dogs housed outside. Runs will be at least forty-eight square feet, with shading supplied during the summer. Shelter will be constructed in such a manner that the dog will stay warm in the winter. Adequate food of a good quality will be provided. Fresh water must be available at all times. Manure will be cleaned up at least once a day.

Approved breeders will place the bitch in her whelping box not later than fifty days after the first mating, in order that she become acclimated. Heat will be provided to keep the box at least 80°F, until the pups are a minimum of eighteen days old. Dogs and people must be kept away from the box to protect against fights, disease, and nervousness.

Approved breeders must attend the bitch during whelping. It is helpful to break the sack, cut the umbilical cord, dry the pup with a towel, and place it on a nipple. If uterine inertia develops, a black discharge is observed or labor continues for more than two hours with no delivery, then veterinary help must be summoned immediately. Pups must be checked for cleft palate as soon as possible. Pups possessing such a defect should be culled promptly, as they would slowly die otherwise.

Approved breeders must register their litters with the O.E.B.A. no later than one month after their birth. The litter must be inspected by the O.E.B.A. Registrar. If necessary, the inspection can be accomplished by the breeder sending the O.E.B.A. a video tape, which shows the pups, one at a time. All four sides should be shown and the tails must be clearly displayed. The breeder will submit the date of birth, Certificate of Merit numbers of Dam and Sire, a list of pups detailing their sex, color, and whether the pup's tail is straight, crooked, or screw.

The O.E.B.A. will issue puppy papers to the breeder. The fee is $10 per puppy for litters of one or two puppies or $25.00 for litters of three or more puppies. No fee is due for stillborn or lost puppies but, we ask that such puppies be recorded as part of the litter to be registered. Pup buyers will be given these papers, which they should fill out and return to the O.E.B.A. along with $10, to receive O.E.B.A. Registration Papers for their dog.
