SPANISH WATER DOG CLUB OF AMERICA, INC. CODE OF ETHICS

The Spanish Water Dog Club of America, Inc. requires that all breeders subscribe to the following Code of Ethics in order to promote, preserve and foster the highest standards among breeders as well as to encourage sportsmanship and cooperation in the improvement of the Spanish Water Dog.

All breeders must breed with a particular goal in mind, breeding must be planned and not be just the result of easy availability or monetary gain.

Any breeders who falsifies information on registrations or pedigrees will be immediately expelled from this club.

Each puppy will be furnished with health certificates as well as agreements ensuring the well-being of the puppy/dog. Buyers will request that the pet-quality puppy be spayed or neutered. Sire and dam will be tested through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals or Penn-Hip and found to be free of hip dysplasia. Eye certifications of the sire and dam will be conducted prior to breeding. Breeders will breed only those dogs known to be free of serious or disqualifying faults. Overseas breeders will have their SWD tested/health checked by their veterinarian prior to breeding

Selective breeding will be conducted, breeding only health tested Spanish Water Dogs of quality, temperament and soundness with an eye to the conformation, working instincts/ability. Males and females will only be bred when they are physically and mentally mature.

Spanish Water Dog puppies will not be offered to known puppy mills or sold to pet stores for resale.

Breeders will give their puppy people an application to join the Spanish Water Dog Club of America and encourage them to join the club.

All puppy people will be furnished with information concerning shots, feeding instructions and general health of the puppy. Health certificates will accompany each puppy.

All breeders are encouraged to assist with a distressed breeder if needed who has complied with the Code of Ethics to the best of their ability.
